We visited Garner State Park this past week and fell absolutely in love. While it was a little to cold to go tubing the views and setting were fabulous. The cypress trees along the river were turning a rich copper brown which added to the mystic of the campground. We were in the Oakmont camping area in site 26. We had an unobstructed view of the river and were close enough to the bathrooms to suit us. We stayed here in our Lance 915 Truck Camper and found it quite pleasing.
Our site had 30 amp electric and water with a dump station near by. We did not need it though as we used the bath house across from the River Crossing camping area. The site was level but with the truck and Jeep we pretty much filled the drive area. We had two picnic tables although the concrete one did not have any benches. The site also had an iron fire pit which double as a grill. Our camping area was quite full on Sunday when we arrived but had cleared out by Monday afternoon.
This is indeed a wonderful place to stay and play. Although I would suggest that you bring all of your supplies with you as there are not a lot of stores nearby except for convience stores. We drove all over the area and enjoyed the beautifull country side. This would be a super place to bring the kids for hours of fun in the river. The dam on the river created a wonderfull slow moving lake that could hold many people just sitting lazily in there tubes. The store was not open while we were there and neither was the resturaunt. I can see where this place could get real crowed in the summer, but this past week was real quiet as were all of the camping areas. There were probably a dozen campers in our area and even less in the others.
See you on the road.........
